It’s the freaking weekend! And the first week of my new writing schedule is complete! I’m ~currently~ really enjoying having a bit more of a routine and treating TWP like a ‘job’ I have to fit in and meet deadlines for. Consistency is hard but it does get results… (how annoying? Why isn’t half-arsing everything with a choccy biccie in hand ever the answer?) and I’m thrilled to be welcoming quite a lot more of you to the subscriber list this week. Today’s post is a silly one, which I’m sure the most astute of you will realise isn’t merely about price rises at Gregg’s… Have a good one xxx
Here are 12 things you can buy for four GBP. Some are better value than others ;)
A small 34% cocoa blend hot chocolate from Knoops (the best hot choccy shop in all the land). My favourite is actually the 43% but that’s £4.85…
One Sleepy Bear bath bomb from Lush. Are you the kind of person who uses the whole bath bomb or do you halve it?
Four orange & cinnamon dinner candles. They’re actually only £3.75. However, shipping tips your total cost over to nearly £7.
This one’s for my fellow reno princes and princesses. Three paint colour cards from my fave paint brand Fenwick & Tillbrook will set you back £4.50. Close but not quite, eh?
£4 will buy you 3.3 Gregg’s sausage rolls. Of course, it wouldn’t because no member of staff in their right mind would let you buy a third of a saussy roll. It’ll have to be four rolls for £4.80 (definitely worth breaking the budget for though).
A magazine. Grazia is sometimes under £4 a my corner shop and sometimes over £5 - I don’t make the rules - and honestly, prob not worth it whatever the price. I recently got a copy for a long train journey and has it always been so trashy? The tone is so catty! Maybe you could get a kids’ magazine for less… Remember how great Girl Talk was? And Sugar!?
These twisty hoop earrings which I actually do really like were reduced to £4. Will probably turn your ears green though…
These socks I’m confident my big toe will make a bid for freedom from after approximately one material-thinning wash. Cute though.
What about this actually very useful plain white cotton T-shirt? At £3.99 I can’t imagine the supplier in Bangladesh is getting paid very much though…
A bumper pack of cotton wool! You’d have £2 change as well! Even better news, 100% cotton wool is biodegradable! As long as it stays clean and dry, don’t use it to take off your make-up or anything. LOL. I actually really rate these reusable make-up remover pads from The Body Shop, which have days of the week on them and come with a little wash bag (£12 though)
And finally! A whole month of The Wiltshire Pantry!
Gain confidence in the kitchen, find your new favourite recipe, learn to garden alongside a complete beginner, get a podcast or book or TV recommendation that fills you up, embrace a new perspective or feel less alone in your own, feel less alone in general - we’re building a great community of likeminded millennial nanas, lots who’ve recently moved to a new place or life phase, over here! -, make a long commute fly by and swap doom-scrolling Instagram for actual proper thoughtful content from a human, not an algorithm. Oh and also, support independent writing.
All for just £4!
I feel personally attacked by #2 😂
